DiA starts with the observation of the electoral process, invites everyone to observe the election campaign rules

On the eve of the official start of the 22 October Local Election Campaign, the "Democracy in Action" coalition (DiA) has mobilized 61 long-term observers to closely monitor the activities within the 30-day campaign across the country. The overall objective of the DiA, for ten years now, remains the promotion of free, fair and reliable elections that can only be ensured in a peaceful and sustainable environment

DiA launches the Local Elections 2017 voter outreach campaign

Today, the Coalition of Organizations for Election Observation "Democracy in Action (DiA)" has launched a Local Elections 2017 voter outreach and education campaign. DiA chosen 15 September ‘International Day of Democracy’ to launch this campaign in view of marking this date with the youth of the Prizren municipality through discussion on the importance of participation in elections and the simulation of the exercise of the right to vote as one of the essential values of a democratic system.

CEC to decertify the candidates who have problems with the law 

The Central Election Commission (CEC), in the meeting held yesterday, discussed on the decertification of the candidates who have problems with the law. The Law on General Elections, adopted in 2008, stipulates that any persons found guilty of a criminal offence by a final court decision in the past three (3) years, is not eligible to be certified as candidate to run for elections. The eligibility to be elected, guaranteed by the Constitution is in this case, denied due to the court's decision.

The election process was mature and peaceful, accompanied by some irregularities and shortcomings in voter education and information

DiA considers that the elections of 11 June 2017 were peaceful and not affected by severe and violent breaches that would undermine public trust in the electoral process. The exception was the electoral campaign period in Serb-majority municipalities, where the situation during the campaign was tense and voters felt frightened. Also, in these municipalities, Election Day has been closely monitored by increased security forces.

DiA continues to monitor the ballot counting process, in order to guarantee election’s integrity

Prishtina, 11 June 2017
One hour before the voting process is closed, namely at 18:00, DiA’s observers reported that 37% of citizens used their right of voting. The most frequent irregularities that accompanied the voting process from 12:00h until 18:00h are as follows:

DiA: until 12:00 p.m., voter turnout was at 13%; the main problems are voter lists and family voting




The NGO Coalition "Democracy in Action" is continuing to observe the elections process of early parliamentary elections being held today in the entire territory of the country.
According to the reports of DiA observers, 244,647 citizens with the right to vote have voted until 12:00 p.m., respectively 13% of all eligible voters.
According to the CEC official data, the electoral size in these elections is 1,872,941 voters.

DiA: 165 polling stations opened with delays




Opening of polling stations and the election materials
There are 2490 polling stations in the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo. Based on the reports of DiA observers, 165 polling stations (PSs) opened with delays.
Lack of sensitive materials was reported in 1.5% of PSs.

DiA Representatives Meet With Representatives from International Community in Kosovo

Pristina, 4 June 2014. Representatives from network of NGOs Democracy in Action meet today with the Ambassador of Norway in Kosovo Mr. Ian Brathaau and with Ms. Tanya Urquieta - USAID Kosovo Democracy and Governance Director. Representatives from Democracy in Action informed these two officials with the process of monitoring the electoral campaign and preparations of the DiA coalition regarding Election Day.

Campaign Starts Prematurely - Public Resources Abused

As in previous elections, the coalition of non-governmental organizations, Democracy in Action (DiA) is monitoring the process of electoral preparations, including the work of election management bodies and the campaign of political parties. DiA has already engaged 60 long-term observers who are following the pre-election campaign of contending political entities, the work of the Municipal Election Commission (MEC) and is committed to recruiting observers who will monitor the Election Day.

DIA - completes the training process of long-term observers to monitor the election process for early parliamentary elections in 2014

The coalition of NGOs Democracy in Action in the course of monitoring activities and preparations for the electoral process has conducted training activities with long-term observers. The training aimed to build the capacity to monitor the entire electoral process on 8 June 2014 elections, including the election campaign, campaign activities before the day of elections and the process of organization and administration of the electoral process by CEC and its subordinate bodies.

Roundtable on Gender Representation on EMBs bodies in 2013 Local Elections

Pristina, 23 of April 2014. IFES and Democracy in Action with the financial support of the USAID organized a two-fold round-table: to launch the report ‘Gender Analysis of Municipal Election Commissions, Polling Station Commissions and Polling Center Managers at the November2013 Municipal Elections in Kosovo’ and to discuss about gender composition of Election Management Bodies in Kosovo, both in central and local level.

There Are No Free Elections Without Good Intentions

Prishtina , 13 February 2014 – NGO Coalition Democracy in Action ( DiA ) in its conference held today presented the report on observation of local election 2013 titled "There Are No Free Elections Without Good Intentions." Present at the conference were the Ambassador of UK to Kosovo, Ian Cliff, the Ambassador of Norway, Jan Braathu, representatives of parliamentary political parties, representatives of the Central Election Commission and representatives of civil society and media.

Three incidents and several violations in the voting process

Prishtina, 1 December 2013 (14h) – The coalition of NGOs Democracy in Action (DiA) is monitoring the election process in the second round of Local Election for municipality mayors where the election runoff is taking place. Visually impaired persons are educated on the voting process

Pristina, 17 September 2013 - With the motto “I vote on my own” Democracy in Action has organized a roundtable with visually impaired persons in the municipality of Pristina. Election rights of persons with special needs, with the focus on visually impaired persons, were discussed in the roundtable. They were informed that CEC this year additionally will offer voting ballots with Brail language to support visually impaired persons to vote independently.

Democracy in Action implements mock elections for the new voters

September 11, 2013 – Democracy in Action, as a part of the campaign to educate voters, has begun to organize mock elections for high school pupils. These activities have been implemented with the support of Municipal Election Commissions in Kosovo municipalities, with the aim of informing the young voters on election concepts and the importance of their participation in the election.

DiA educates out of country voters

August 2013 - A campaign to inform out of country voters kicked off on 22nd of August. DiA placed two informational stands at the Prishtina airport and Merdare border checkpoint, distributing brochures for out of country voters as they travel out of the country. In addition, a web banner was placed in one of the most visited web portals Telegrafi to inform this group of voters. The campaign aims to increase the participation of voters in the local elections.

DiA advocates for inclusion of women in the election proces

Prishtinë, 30 July 2013 - Democracy in Action held a public debate with the women’s informal parliamentary group in order to discuss the inclusion of women in the electoral process.
In this debate a number of problems encountered int he previous elections wer raised, such as family voting, the low number of women int he election management bodies, low number of women observers and the low participation of women in the voting process.

DiA publishes the call for proposals for small grants

Democracy in Action (DiA) plans to cooperate with organizations that promote women’s rights to implement educational activities in different regions in Kosovo. DiA will support these organizations by providing 7 micro-grants in different regions of Kosovo. At least, one of the organizations will be selected amongst the minority communities. Please find attached the call for proposal, and the forms which need to be submitted in support of the application.

Parliamentary elections of 23rd of June in Albania

Tiranë, 23 qershor 2013 -With the support of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), DiA deployed 8 short term observers for the parliamentary elections of 23rd of June in Albania. The main goal of this observation mission was to conduct an analysis of the pilot projects on the use of election technology in Albania, and to draft a brief report about the possibilities of using such technology in Kosovo in the future.

Be part of the Constitution amending proccess!

Prishtina, 28 September 2011 – Democracy in Action in co-operation with the parliamentary Committee for amending the Constitution today launched the campaign to precizely and on time inform the citizens regarding the amendment of the Constitution as well as to increase their awareness on the effects of this process. Also, this campaign will aim at ensuring active participation of citizens and the latter’s contribution during public consultations that will be organised in 11 cities around Kosovo.

Democracy in Action – part of the Working Group on Elections

Pristina, July 06 2011, On Wednesday Kosovo Assembly, respectively the ad-hoc Parliamentary Committee on Amending of the General Election Law established the Working Group on Elections (WGO). By decision of this committee, Democracy in Action representative ie leader of the coalition Mr. Ismet Kryeziu, was selected as one of twenty members that constitute this committee. WGO members voted for Ms. Valdete Daka as the Chairperson of the Group.
